RANDOM THOUGHT ALERTS!!! (Vol. 1, No. 8)

One of my favorite shows to watch with Baby Boy Scribbler is PBS Kids' Peg + Cat.  However, there are days when the show can be called Everybody Loves Ramone because the young brother is so helpful to everyone and always returns a thank you with "I do what I can".  So as I'm watching the "I Do What I Can: The Musical!" episode, the parent in me watching an innocent celebration for an awesome kid with his son gives way to the 21-year-old "adult" in me beginning his "blunder years" (I explain that theory here in case you care to read a throwback) and loving really ignorant gangsta music.  My twisted brain immediately goes to the "Out There Part 2" skit on Project Pat's Mista Don't Play - Everythangs Workin album where one of the dudes says, "F--k that, boys do what they can, men do what they want!"  Instantly I thought, "Well, Ramone is a boy and not a man yet, so....I'm just sayin'."  Hence, I have managed to ruin the reputation of the coolest character from one of my son's favorite TV program.  Good job, Poppa Scribb...good job.  Considering what social media has been doing to the cast of Arthur lately, I better get to the rest of my "RANDOM THOUGHT ALERTS!!!" before another fine PBS Kids cartoon get slaughtered...

In Heavy Rotation (Black Music Month 2016)

When Momma Scribbler, Big Little Brother Scribbler (when he was actually Little Little Brother Scribbler) and I moved to Halley Terrace in Southeast D.C. in the summer of 1988, it took my mother about six months before she broke down and purchased cable for the first time.  One of the channels that my brother and I gravitated toward was BET and among so many awesome aspects to the only channel at the time that was owned by and featured Black people, I remember always looking forward to Black Music Month in June.  You would think that a predominantly Black network couldn't do it up any more for a month dedicated to our musical legacy, but with more throwback and world premiere videos as well as a few specials, they managed to drum up the excitement regardless.  While BET has channeled more of their Black Music Month energy into the BET Awards, I've decided to keep that initial legacy going in my own way and specifically dedicate this month's edition of "In Heavy Rotation" to my fellow brothas and sistas with a mixture of the old and the new.  Flipping one of Ol' Dirty Bastard's opening lines from "Triumph", let's take it back to '89--although none of these albums were made in '89, but you get the point...

Scribbler's Highlight of the Week (Part II): Dormtainment.com, "A-- on the Internet"

As promised, this is the second installment of my highlight of the week, but it's something a little sillier this time around.  Although "A-- on the Internet" is over three months old, nothing is truly old as long as your sense of humor doesn't have an expiration date.  I just got a kick out of this jawn.  If my friends and I had a camcorder and YouTube during our college years, we may have done stuff like this.  Major shout-out to Dormtainment.com for providing the funny, and you can also follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook.  Shout-out to Mrs. Scribbler for putting me on to quite a few of their videos, and trust that they'll get some more shine on my blog in the future.  (Now if only most of the music videos on MTV Jams or BET were this entertaining...)
